On 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with Apple silicon and Mac Studio, you can connect high-impedance headphones to the 3.5mm audio jack. I use this handy shortcut multiple times a day as I juggle my many sound input and output options on OS X, and it’s something that I find so handy that I felt compelled to share. Use Audio-Out or with headphones, speakers, and other audio-output devices that connect using an audio cable that has a 3.5 mm (1/8 inch) audio jack. All sound input devices available to your Mac are listed. Select the device you want to use in the list of sound input devices. Note: The options that appear depend on your Mac model and the audio devices plugged into your Mac.
You can even use this method to quickly output sound to an AirPlay capable device like an Apple TV.
